Message Notes
Moms // Family Matters // 05.12.24
One of the great Sundays of the year is Mother’s day for obvious reasons. This year is no different. This message simply called, “Mom” will launch us onto a six week family series culminating on Father’s day. In our opening message I will use the story of Moses mother having to let him go in that little make shift boat upon the Nile to save his life. From her life we get to see some of the great qualities of a mom. I suggest you invite mom and Grandmother as we bless and honor moms. See you there.

Discussion Questions – 05.12.24 – Family Matters
Intro: Take some time and talk about your mother/grandmother/or mother figure in your life.
1. How do you interpret the concept of living contrary as discussed in the sermon? Can you share an example from your life or someone you know where a mother had to live contrary to societal norms or expectations for the sake of her child?
2. Jochebed must have been spiritually in tune with God to trust Him enough to put Moses into the Nile to keep him safe, as the Nile would have still been a dangerous place to put the child, even in a basket. How do you stay “in tune” with God so that you can hear His voice and follow His direction?
3. Jochebed wants to protect her son. She has that motherly instinct that picks up cars and runs into buildings. She does this because love motivates her toward protection. This is a two-part question:
1. In what ways do you protect the ones you love?
2. If we say that we love Christ, what are we doing to protect our hearts so that we can live out our love?
4. Pastor Jim talked about the knowledge that one day you will have to “let go,” how do you do with letting go? We don’t mean just with kids, but with anything. What are the difficulties you have with this idea?
5. Explore the idea of releasing children into the world only to receive them back in unexpected ways. How does this concept resonate with your understanding of parental love and sacrifice?
